It comes after Normal People bosses issued a takedown notice to X-rated site Pornhub after a video complication of sex scenes from the show surfaced on the website.

A user of the website shared a selection of racy scenes from the 12-part series and merged them into a 22-minute compilation of the show's most intimate moments.

According to Variety, the video was shared on the adult website last week and has since been taken down after the removal request was issued.

The show, which is produced by Element Pictures and aired on the BBC and Hulu, has received praise for its honest and relatable sex scenes.

The story follows well-heeled Marianne Sheridan's [Daisy Edgar-Jones] complex on and off relationship with working-class love interest Connell Waldron [Paul Mescal].

Executive producer Ed Guiney told the publication that they were 'hugely disappointed' excerpts had been 'used in this way'.

He said: 'It's both a violation of copyright and more importantly, it's deeply disrespectful to the actors involved and to the wider creative team.'

Guiney added: 'We have taken appropriate steps to require that the content be removed from the platform with immediate effect.'

However Vice President of Pornhub Corey Price insisted that the video has since been removed from the website in accordance with the request.

He told the news outlet: 'Pornhub is fully compliant with the law. We respect all copyright requests and as soon as we become aware of the existence of these types of videos on our site, we have them removed.'

Due to the growth of internet sharing sites the distribution of sex scenes online has become a mounting problem for television programmes.

Producers regularly send out take down letters to video-sharing sites after anti-piracy companies site the internet for any trace of copyright infringement.

Although well-known sites will usually take down the video without any fuss, some illegal sites will not comply with requests and it becomes costly for TV companies to take legal action.

BBC drama Normal People has become the network's sauciest show, thanks to its eye-watering number of sex scenes and full-frontal nudity.

The corporation's past shows Versailles and Wanderlust held the record for being the raunchiest series to date, until the current hit show landed on TV screens.

Normal People - which is shown on BBC Three - features over 41 minutes of amorous action across its episodes.

Calculated by The Sun, the publication categorises these scenes as 'sex, kissing or foreplay', claiming that 12 percent of the show features these.

The second episode of the show alone features 11 minutes of sex between stars Daisy and Paul. The series has been downloaded over 23 million times.

A source said: 'The writers wanted to stay true to the book and that featured a lot of sex. They didn't want to portray it gratuitously though, and an intimacy coach was used to ensure the cast were happy at all times.

'But there's no denying there's a lot of nakedness and lots of sex — it's probably not one to watch with the parents!'

While Paul's character saw plenty of action on the show, the actor himself has revealed he is still single and ready to date after lockdown.

Speaking on the I'm Grand Mam podcast, Paul admitted that he had tried dating apps before the pandemic but deleted them as he 'didn't like it'.

The Irish heartthrob said: 'I stopped using [apps] weeks before… because I didn't like it anyway. To be honest I'm really looking forward to dating.

'I'm trying not to think of it being weird because… look, we've been in lockdown for months. I've had no kind of opportunity to be like meeting somebody new or being remotely intimate with anybody.'

He added: 'I think we're at the point where I want to get married and settle down. But you know that kind of hysterical thing where if lockdown ever happens again, I'm making sure that I'm married. But yeah, I am looking forward to dating!'

Paul's interview comes after he revealed that his granny had to issue warnings to other family members about the nature of his raunchy Normal People sex scenes.

While co-star Daisy revealed she's 'proud' of the sex scenes between herself and Paul as they were portrayed with equality on screen.
