Turn your back for this season's subtle return to sexy

by Shaun Keir (2020-10-05)

We've got your back this season! Because it is not just part of your anatomy, it is one of this year's hottest accessories, too.

That's right: just as hems go up and down, even body parts go in and out of style.

All the midi-dresses and modest necklines we've been wearing mean that cleavages and legs have been in the shade.
Instead, it's been about showing some shoulder and arm, with shops brimming with off the-shoulder-tops and dresses galore.

But now, it's time to turn your back (sorry) on that trend, with a multitude of beautifully feminine backless designs on the High Street.

British style expert Jess Wood, shared her advice for wearing outfits that expose your back.

There's something enjoyable about presenting a covered-up front view, then delivering a mic-drop moment as you walk out of the room.

It gives you a chance to show off that end-of-summer bronzed skin in a way that's not as overt as flashing decolletage.

However, your underwear is crucial. If you're a B cup or smaller, lucky you: forget the bra, shimmy into the dress of your choice and go about your business. If, however, you're bigger of bust, it's far trickier.

As the not-so-proud owner of a pair of seriously unperky 32E boobs, I'd, frankly, be more tempted to forgo my pants than my bra.

Thankfully, there are several fabulous new lingerie innovations (see box, below).

The Betty Boob backless bra by InvisiBra goes up to an E/F cup and can be bought with clear straps for extra security. Then there are genius self-adhesive bras with separate cups from brands including Tezenis and Maidenform.

Intimissimi's backless bra is made from soft seamless microfibre, and has hypoallergenic gel strips on cups and sides to help it stay up.

With that supporting act taken care of, you can give these outfits (pictured above) a starring role.

Right, I'm off to find that long-handled body buffer .
