Abstract


This study aims to describe the existence of characters in the romance of Relung-Relung Tajam by Bustamam Halimy. The research method used a qualitative method which is explained about the description data. Technique of collecting data in this research is descriptive  qualitative. While the analyzed the data, the writer used reducing data, presenting data and drawing the final conclusion. The source of data in this research is the romance of Relung-Relung Tajam by Bustamam Halimy. The research data which is the writer look for in the form of sentences and quotations of dialogue related to the existence of characters who experienced theree stages of existence, namely the aesthetic stage, ethical stage and religious stage. The data of this study amounted to 59 consisted of 13 characters, each character experienced theree stages of existence, namely the aesthetic stage, ethical stage and religious stage. Based on the result of the research, self exsistence was found out in all characters in the roman. All data research showed that main character who experienced more self exsistence.
