PEOPLE RESISTANCE AND NASTIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS IN PRAMOEDYA ANANTA TOER’S JEJAK LANGKAH

Abstract


Historically, people's resistance in fighting the injustice system is often mobilized by the younger generation. The resistance is constructed by the social condition which is colonized by the colonizer. Therefore, this research specifically aims at elaborating (1) what make people (in this case, roled by Minke as the main character) increase their national awareness in fighting against the Dutch colonialism, (2) What method of resistance is used by the main character in resisting the Dutch colonialism. In examining the two cases above, the researcher applies the novel of Jejak Langkah by Pramoedya Ananta Toer as the source of research data. The research method used as the technique of data collection, the technique data analysis, and the technique of data validation is qualitative methodology. The results of the research in the two cases above shows that (1) there are four causes which stimiluates people national consciousness in fighting against the Dutch colonialism. (2) There are two instruments used by the main characters in fighting against Dutch colonialism id est the mass organization and the media.
