Abstract

Inadequate universal precautionary behavior can pose a risk of infection for health workers including nurses. Therefore, appropriate supervision methods need to be applied to improve nurses' adherence to the application of universal precautions in hospitals. The research aims to determine the effect of supervising interactive reflective models on the behavior of nurses' universal precaution at Andalas University Education Hospital. This study uses a quasi-experimental design pre-test post-test with control group. The number of samples in the intervention group and the control group were 44 nurses each using simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using dependent t-test. The results of this study prove that there are differences in the mean value of the behavior of the application of universal precautions in the intervention group before and after the provision of interactive reflective supervision of 34 (mean pretest = 150.84; mean posttest = 184.84, p value = 0.000). This means that there is an influence of providing interactive reflective supervision on improving the behavior of nurses' universal precautions. Providing interactive reflective supervision is expected to help prevent the risk of infection to nurses at Andalas University Education Hospital.
