When choosing a university, it is important to consider the type of school that you would like to attend. While there are a variety of private universities in the United States, there great public universities as well. A public university is a school that receives funding primarily from the government. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
Founded in 1867, The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is a public research university. The 1,783-acre main campus is located in Urbana and Champaign, Illinois. As of 2011, total enrollment at UIUC was 42,605 students, out of that number 31,932 were undergraduates. UIUC has 17 colleges, offering over 150 undergraduate and over 100 graduate and professional degree programs for paper help. Undergraduate majors offered include early childhood education, statistics, general engineering, and finance.

University of Wisconsin at Madison
The University of Wisconsin at Madison is a public research university and was established in 1848. Located in Madison, Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin's main campus is 936 acres and rests on the Lake Mendota shore. As of fall 2010, undergraduate enrollment was 28,897. Total enrollment was 42,595 students. The student body represented all 50 states and 131 countries. The University of Wisconsin offers 157 undergraduate majors. Additionally, 150 graduate degree, 12 professional degree, and 100 doctorate programs are also offered.

Binghamton University
Established in 1946, Binghamton University (BU) is a public research university located in Vestal, New York. BU is one of four universities in the State University of New York system. The university is comprised of six schools including the Decker School of Nursing, Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Management. Over 130 undergraduate majors are offered including bioengineering, anthropology, nursing, and geography. BU has almost 95,000 alumni worldwide.

The University of Maryland
Founded in 1856, The University of Maryland, College Park is a public research university. Located in College Park, Maryland, the University of Maryland is the flagship school in the University System of Maryland. As of 2012, total undergraduate enrollment was 26,826. Graduate student enrollment was 10,805. The University of Maryland offers 90 undergraduate majors in 10 colleges. A few of the many majors offered include biological sciences, geology, journalism, urban forestry, and women's studies.

The University of Oklahoma
Established in 1890, The University of Oklahoma (OU) is a public research university located in Norman, Oklahoma. As of fall 2012, OU had over 30,000 enrolled students. At the main campus in Norman, over 20,000 undergraduate students were enrolled. OU has 21 colleges and offers 163 undergraduate degree programs. OU also offers 157 graduate, 81 doctorate, and 28 doctorate level majors. Additionally, the OU faculty has over 2,600 full-time members.

Prospective students have various options when it comes to public universities. There are good public colleges all over the United States. Additionally, public universities offer numerous top-ranked academic options. Students now have many highly ranked public institutions to choose from.
